Record video
Media Recorder offers you precision and flexibility in video recording, synchronization and the recording of rapidly occurring behaviors. It allows you to record videos files from one or up to 4 cameras. For example, one can use it to record videos and then use EthoVision XT or The Observer XT to analyze these videos. Video files may be stored separately in full resolution or they can be combined into one singular file. The Media Recorder will store the files in a user specified location, allowing for easy retrieval. Media Recorder is of interest to anyone who works with video. If you are considering generating video files to be used with EthoVision XT or The Observer XT, Media Recorder will increase the value and ease-of-use of your complete solution.

 

Flexible solution
Media Recorder is compatible with a wide range of cameras based on today’s technologies, as well as with many analog systems. The Media Recorder can record from a range of selected FireWire cameras, USB cameras (web cameras), analog cameras, IP cameras, GigE Cameras, etc. Depending on the cameras you can record up to four video files simultaneously at full resolution, or at high speed of up to 100 frames per second. Files can be stored separately or combined into one video file. For example, save four separate video files to study a group of zoo animals from four different views for detailed behavioral observations with The Observer XT and the Multiple Video Module. Additionally, one can combine four video streams in one file to track the movement and activity of animals in multiple arenas simultaneously for offline data acquisition with EthoVision XT and the Multiple Arenas Module. The Media Recorder will store the files safely in a user specified location and everything that was recorded together can easily be retrieved.

 

Picture by Picture and Picture in Picture
Videos from four cameras can be combined into one file. Choose to have up to 4 camera inputs displayed in 4 equal quadrants (picture by picture) or to display up to 3 small video images in 1 main video image (picture in picture). Picture in picture allows you to choose the position of the embedded video images within the primary video and then identify which image comes from which camera with a superimposed number on the camera image.

 

Record rapidly occurring behaviors
In particular, when one is studying rapidly occurring behaviors, it is ideal to record videos and score them afterwards with The Observer XT. The playback functionality of The Observer XT allows you to play back the videos at a low speed, and score behaviors in greater detail.

 

Data synchronization
The key to synchronization is integration. When you use the Media Recorder, you don’t have to worry about the data synchronization, because the Media Recorder can record up to four files in sync. Additionally, you can command the Media Recorder from another software program to start and stop recording. By controlling the Media Recorder from The Observer XT, for example, you can manage all your data with one application. 

 

Fully integrated
Besides using the Media Recorder as a stand-alone tool, it can also be used in The Observer XT or in EthoVision XT. Special protocols can be defined to start and/or stop recording of a video file while scoring data in The Observer XT or video tracking in EthoVision XT is done.
