Theme experts’ meeting in Budapest on 8-9 September

10 August 2007

On 8 and 9 September 2007 the biannual MASI meeting will be held at the Eötvös University, Department of Ethology in Budapest. MASI stands for the European research group on Methodology for the Analysis of Social Interaction. Founded in 1997 the group has been pioneering in the use of Theme. Their activities were summarized in the book ‘The Hidden Structure of Interaction’ edited by Anolli et al, 2005.

In the view of the MASI group, social interaction is something very generic. It is not confined to traditional psychology or ethology. Its principles apply to vastly different areas like linguistics, media sciences, facial expression studies, and electrophysiology of neural tissues. Due to the interdisciplinary cross-pollination earlier meetings were highly productive.

“This is the fifth meeting already. When MASI started on the basis of an inter-university convention around the t-pattern model and THEME, back in 1995, few expected that it would attract so much interest from so many different areas” says Gudberg Jonsson, member of the organizing committee.
