Noldus plays an active role in several leading research projects around the world. Our preferred role is that of a technology partner: we develop tools and methods, and the researchers use and validate them. This way we contribute to scientific progress. At the same time the projects give us an opportunity to develop relevant new technologies - not only for today's mainstream use, but also for tomorrow's needs. Current projects


ACROSSING ACROSSING ACROSSING is a multi-disciplinary research project developing advanced flexible new technologies for use in smart homes.

ADVICE DriveLab ADVICE Multimodal measurement of driver behavior and physiology, real-time driver state estimation; development of the DriveLab product.

Brainview BRAINVIEW This Horizon 2020 project is about creating an integrated view on disruptions of early brain development.

BrainWave BrainWave The BrainWave project will develop a wearable brainwave (EEG) processing platform enabling 24/7 healthcare of Parkison's and epilepsy patients.


Citius Altus Sanius Citius Altius Sanius means faster, higher, healthier and this project will focus research into new technologies which can help prevent sports injuries.

Cognitive Village (CogAge) Cognitive Village Cognitive Village (CogAge) is a German project in which new human-centred, mobile and dynamic technology is being developed to assist elderly people in a rural village.

DAISY DAISY-2 In this project a radically new type of radar technology is being developed. Noldus will test its applicability as a tracking technology for behavioral data in a number of situations, such as consumer behavior and people-tracking in which its guarantee of anonymity will be of benefit.

DriveLab for health DriveLab for Health Noldus' DriveLab solution is an integrated setup for measuring the behavior of someone using a driving simulator. DriveLab was originally created for human factors research and in this project it will be further developed with particular attention to the possibilities for research into the impact of diseases and ageing on driving ability.

FOODCOST project FOODCOST This ERASMUS Plus project aims to to modernize and improve university education in the field of  food production, food quality and consumer studies through synergistic effects of international cooperation, transfer of innovations and creation of new values in the project consortium of 10 partners in 9 countries.

eNHANCE eNHANCE This Horizon 2002 project develops technology to detect the intention of a user of a prosthetic limb, so that the limb can carry out the user's wishes more effectively.

E-Watch eWatch This project will develop the next generation of wrist-worn wearable devices which will be able to measure physiology much more accurately and with more parameters than currently possible. Noldus will develop a software platform for researchers using these devices and validate a number of research use cases.

The objectives of improving Children's Auditory REhabilitation (iCARE) is an ITN training project focussing on improving the communication of children with a hearing impairment.

Interregional Automated Transport


This INTERREG project will work on various aspects of cross-border automated transport including truck platooning, automated cars (WEpods) and parcel delivery. Human factors (how do passengers and other road users react to and experience the automated vehicles) is an important aspect.

MIND project MIND In the Medical Innovation Netherlands - Germany project, we are developing a number of behavioural-based smart devices, including using augmented reality glasses to aid Parkinsons' patients.

LetItFlow LetItFlow This project produces IT tools to support elderly workers in healthcare so that they can continue to work effectively despite changes in knowledge and technology.


Prautocol The technical development of autonomous cars is proceeding at a fast pace and this raises important questions about the role of the 'drivers' of those vehicles. As their role changes from actively driving more to monitoring, how can we ensure that it is still safe on our roads? Prautocol investigates the role of testing and certification of both the car and the operator in autonomous cars.

SportsConnected2Society SportsConnected2Society The performance of sportspeople is increasingly measured with a variety of digital devices.  In this project, the companies producing those devices cooperate together to enable integration and synchronization of the various data streams, so that sports scientists and coaches can get a more complete picture of what is going on in the mind and body of the sports person whilst he or she is participating in a sports activity.


Virtual Emotion Reader This project is developing a new system for measuring consumer choice behaviour, including emotions whilst the subjects are eating.


VIBE In this project about medical simualtion and training, Noldus will develop its tools for measuring human behavior in virtual environment.

Recently completed projects

ADVICE Multimodal measurement of driver behavior and physiology, real-time driver state estimation; development of the DriveLab product.

AIR AIR The goal of AIR (Advanced Interface Research) was to investigate new ways of interaction with technological systems in their respective context of use. A range of Noldus's products were used in the project and valuable feedback was given for further development.

CaMeLi CaMeLi - Care Me for Life CaMeLi was a EU-funded AAL project seeking to provide automated services with the purpose of assisting elderly people in their daily activities and assist in the provision of a comfortable quality of care.
CSI The Hague CSI The Hague This project developed of an integrated solution for measurement and analysis of behavior of forensic experts at a crime scene.

DriveLab DRIVOBS The goal of this project was to integrate The Observer XT with a driving simulator, including multimodal integration of video, physiology, emotion, eye tracking, annotation and visualization. The technology developed can be seen in the DriveLab product.

eMOSION E-MOSION The E-MOSION project enabled integral outdoor and indoor localization and mobility services for elderly people with age-related sensory (visual, auditory) and cognitive (memory) impairments that helped them in their daily routine activities outside the home.

Empathic Products Empathic Products This project was about the development of empathic products to achieve better user experience by applying affective computing technologies to understand and respond to user intentions and emotions.

FOCOM FOCOM FOCOM designed novel test setups that can help us to understand how food and brain influence each other. One of these is a “virtual shop simulator”, which allows consumers to navigate through a virtual supermarket while their behavior, physiology and brain responses are captured.
Guarantee project GUARANTEE This project developed a home security system based on tracking of people, identification and behavior recognition.

i Care Net iCareNet This project developed context-aware systems for healthcare, wellness, and assisted living applications. Noldus' focus lay on vision-based techniques to study eating behavior.

Miraculous Life Miraculous Life The aim of the Miraculous-Life project was to develop an innovative user-centric technological solution, the Virtual Support Partner, attending to an elderly person in his or her daily needs.

SWELL SWELL Development of software for analysis and visualization of workload and emotion in an "intelligent workplace", to be used for evaluation, training and feedback.
