Inside Consumer Experience (ICE)

Website: http://www.ice-project.org/

The aim of the ICE project is to develop novel instruments and mobile services for the objective measurement of food selection and consumption in real-life contexts. Noldus is the coordinating partner in the project and is responsible for the development of a mobile observational and sensory laboratory with state-of-the-art (third-party) hardware solutions and accompanying software, integrated into one synchronized system. Together with one of the project partners, Noldus will set up a suite of corresponding research services. The tools and services can be used by the food and nutrition industry and other (non-profit) organizations in this field.

Pilot study
On 9 October 2010 the ICE project group carried out a pilot study during the Food4You festival. Food4You is an annual public event in the center of Wageningen (The Netherlands), see www.food4you.nl. The festival presented the latest knowledge on nutrition, food and lifestyle. A few dozen participants were outfitted with a GPS tracker and a PDA with location-aware experience sampling software. In this way, tracks and responses to context-specific questions were recorded. Preliminary results suggest that these techniques provide a valuable way of gaining additional insights into the behavior of visitors to large open-air events like this.
