Ethovision for Windows: A milestone in video tracking!
Wageningen, 31 December 1999 - Noldus Information Technology today announced the release of EthoVision, version 2.0 for Windows, a major upgrade of its premier video tracking system for automatic measurement of movements and behavior. To create EthoVision for Windows, the 14-member development team has completely redesigned and rewritten the original EthoVision software, resulting in a robust 32-bit application optimized for Windows 95, 98 and NT. "With the development of EthoVision, version 2.0 for Windows, Noldus Information Technology sets, also in the new millenium, the standard for automation of behavioral experiments" said Ruud Tegelenbosch, Product Manager of EthoVision at Noldus in the Netherlands. He continues "By combining the versatility, flexibility and reliability of the DOS version with many new and improved functions and typical Windows features, EthoVision has become, even more than ever, a state-of-the-art video tracking system!"
A few of the new or improved features in EthoVision, version 2.0 for Windows
Well-structured organization of experiments - The new Experiment Explorer assures a clear overview of experiments, designs, data selections, analysis reports and track files. By using existing designs and selections, one can quickly, and without errors, set up new experiments. Flexible drawing tools - Defining where tracking should take place and which are the areas of interest is easy with the large set of drawing tools. Customize colors, fill patterns and line thicknesses to meet specific needs. Arena definitions can be easily copied when multiple arenas are placed under a single camera. Real-time graphical view of tracking - In addition to quantitative feedback (tracking statistics and measurement parameters), tracking results are also depicted graphically. In a customizable video display the user can combine part of the recorded path, detected object shape and current arena definition, together with the original video image. Quick answers to research questions - A detailed and interactive visual analysis from different experimental groups or time intervals is now possible by plotting (at user-defined speed) multiple tracks on a single screen. Based on independent variables, the plots can be sorted horizontally and vertically, allowing a direct comparison of treatments, individuals, etc. In addition, a wide range of analysis parameters is offered to quantify activity, movement and interactions of animals. Results are displayed in a customizable spreadsheet and can be easily exported in different file formats for further analysis. Direct inclusion of track plots in reports - Track plots can be saved as graphics files or pasted directly in reports or presentations. Illustrations are now more informative than ever giving a complete overview of the setup used by including both the arena definition and video image in the plot itself.
