TrackSphere

Have you ever tried to observe an animal in close-up while it constantly walks out of the field of your video camera? Presented an odor stimulus at an exact time and location to a freely moving animal? Or measured the movement track of an animal over extended periods of time without the disturbing effect of artificial boundaries? If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes!”, then you know exactly how difficult it is.

Walking animals will not stay in focus, their movement patterns are affected by physical borders, and you would need to be a genuine acrobat to deliver an odor stimulus to freely moving animals in a reproducible way. But there is a solution to these problems. It is called TrackSphere, a unique device that allows an animal to walk freely, in a completely unconstrained manner, while keeping it at a fixed position for close-up observation and stimulus presentation.
