To support soccer coaches with a more scientific approach to match analysis, four club and nine international soccer matches were analyzed using Theme. Based on acquired observational data, Theme was capable of detecting attacking movements which would not have been detected otherwise. Moreover, international matches displayed more consistency and individual events during these matches were more often part of larger temporal patterns. This could mean that on an international level players make a better team. Theme thus proved to be an effective research and support tool in performance analysis.
