Introducing a test. In the Testing Room, users are introduced to the tasks they will perform on the application to be tested. A test case document is given to the user for reference. |

Beginning with the test. The testing room has a setup for the user to perform his tasks, and has telephone help line simulated. Voice over can also be used for instructions. |

Testing. Besides a one-way mirror, two dome cameras mounted to the ceiling keep track of user movements on screen, his finger movements on the keyboard and his facial expressions. The interactions on the monitor are captured through a scan converter. |

Capturing. The Observation Room on the other side of the one-way mirror is equipped with high-end tools like The Observer Video-Pro for video analysis. Currently event logging is done after the lab test using videos recorded through video recorder, AV mixer and scan converter. However simultaneous event logging is done for fast track projects. Projecting the testing activity enables our team of developers and usability experts to analyze the events live for quick decisions. |

Observing the test. A group of developers, performance engineering experts, product stakeholders and usability consultants carefully observe and analyze the test. Video highlights are recorded on DVDs for distribution and presentation purposes. In the quantitative analysis, task completion, error frequency and user behaviors tracked with variables are exported to Excel and next to SPSS for hypothesis testing. |
