Wageningen, 13 December 2006 - After three years of intensive development, investigation of the customer’s wishes, and extensive validation testing, Noldus is proud to announce the inclusion of EthoVision XT in the EthoVision family. EthoVision XT is a new video tracking system that provides solutions to new challenges in behavioral studies. The new system builds upon the proven performance of its closest relative; EthoVision 3.1 is a versatile video tracking system, which has over eight hundred users and has been cited in more than one thousand scientific publications.

EthoVision XT not only offers new functionality, but also delivers improvements related to the flexibility and ease of use. The system’s functionality includes the ability to track the nose point and tail base of mice and rats and to measure the elongation and mobility of their body. Together, these features help you to investigate emotional and motivational states such as fear, curiosity, and recognition. EthoVision XT provides the opportunity to automate a wide range of tests, including the novel object recognition test, the plus maze, and the fear conditioning test.

With EthoVision XT, the first steps in integration of behavioral and physiological data are taken. When working with a telemetry or other data acquisition system, EthoVision XT can send out a signal to synchronize the physiological data and the behavioral data obtained with EthoVision XT. In this way, physiological data streams can be imported and visualized, in sync with the acquired video tracks. Investigating the relationship between physiological and behavioral data can lead to better understanding of research results.

EthoVision XT’s unique detection method makes tracking more robust and reliable than ever. This method ensures that your animal will still be reliably tracked, even when the background changes, for instance due to the animal urinating or reorganizing its bedding or to changing light conditions. These events no longer interfere with video tracking.

EthoVision XT is an addition to the Noldus video tracking system portfolio and not the successor of EthoVision 3.1.
