Huawei Technologies selects Noldus tools for usability testing of telecommunications products

Shenzhen, China, 12 October 2006 – Huawei Technologies has selected Noldus Information Technology’s tools for user research and usability testing of new telecommunications hardware and software. The agreement was celebrated during the “Innovation Dinner” in Shenzhen, witnessed by Mrs. Karien van Gennip, Minister for Foreign Trade of The Netherlands, during a trade mission to the People’s Republic of China.

Specially designed portable usability labs, using digital video, audio, screen capture, and The Observer XT data collection and analysis software, have become the workhorses for usability engineers in Huawei’s research labs in Shenzhen, China and Plano, Texas, USA. Huawei’s Vice President Mr. Water Su explained Huawei’s development strategy: “We strive for high quality, excellent service, and low operating costs. We give top priotiry to meeting customer requirements to enhance their competitiveness and profitability.” Mr. Dongyuan Li, Manager of Engineering Technologies, added: “The flexibility and power of The Observer XT make it suitable for a wide range of usability tests, from hardware designs to software user interfaces.” Lucas Noldus commented: “We are proud to have Huawei as our customer. User-centered design is rapidly catching on in China and Huawei Technologies is a role model for the entire Chinese telecommunications industry. We look forward to working with Huawei to further develop this discipline within the company.”

Noldus Information Technology’s flagship software product The Observer has become the industry standard for collection and analysis of observational data. The latest release, The Observer XT 6.1, supports the integration and synchronization of a wide range of data sources, including but not limited to, digital video and audio, digital screen capture, keystroke and mouse click logging, eye tracking, and physiological signals. It supports user studies throughout the product design cycle, including ethnographical field studies, focus groups, formative and summative usability testing, both lab-based and remote.
