I see strange artifacts in my video when using MPEG-4 files created with my Picolo Diligent board
Problem | |
The picture looks "pixelated" or divided up into blocks. I have Windows Media Player 11 installed on my PC. The problem is caused by a new MPEG-4 codec that is automatically installed by Microsoft's Automatic Update service. This replaces the old (working) codec with a new one, which has compatibility issues.

Solution | |
Rename the new codec C:\windows\system\32MP4SDECD.dll, for instance into C:\windows\system\32MP4SDECd.new. In that case the old "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Decompressor" is used, which is still on your system. If you do not see the file to rename, open Windows Explorer and from the Tools menu, select Folder Options. Then, on the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders and clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
