From Behavioral Observations to Data Analysis:
How to Get the Most out of Your Research
Pre-congress workshop at Xth European Congress of Psychology
2 July 2007
Prague, Czech Republic

Whether studying parent-child interaction or evaluating group discussions, observational research implies many questions about the right tools to use. With the wealth of currently available solutions, making the right choice is not easy for the researcher. Getting meaningful output from analysis results requires careful consideration of the observational set-up.

This interactive workshop is designed to assist with your observational research and basic lab set-up needs. You will gain knowledge of technology relevant to data collection, storage, analysis and presentation. Participants of the workshop will learn how software can support data collection and analysis. Various tools will be demonstrated live during the workshop.

The first part will focus on general behavior research and will include information on:

  • different observation methods;
  • pattern detection;
  • facial expression analysis;
  • benefits of analysis;
  • how to code observations;
  • reliability analysis;
  • synchronizing behavior with external data, for example coming from an eye-tracker or physiological measurement system.

The second part of the workshop is designed to help facilitate explaining observation lab setup methodology using real world examples of labs Noldus has installed.

For who?
This workshop is intended for psychologists who are facing the challenge of observational research. The topics are relevant for every researcher who is involved in or planning to start with video assisted behavioral observations.

Maximum number of participants: 30
