This is Noldus
Noldus Information Technology was established in 1989 by Lucas Noldus, founder and CEO of the company. With a Ph.D. in animal behavior from Wageningen University, he developed the company’s first software tool during his research in entomology. Noldus has strived to advance behavioral research ever since, evolving into a company that provides integrated systems including software, hardware, and services.
We now offer a wide range of solutions for research in animal and human domains, including biology, psychology, marketing, human factors, and healthcare. We work with leading suppliers and develop innovative, state-of-the art products. We also offer excellent technical support and customer care. As a result, our systems have found their way into more than 9700 universities, research institutes, and companies in almost 100 countries.
The success of our company is determined to a large extent by the enthusiasm and creativity of our employees. We encourage each other to think outside the box, which leads to unique products and services for our customers. And we are always on the lookout for new talent! We are here to help you to improve your research, engineering, teaching and training. Together with our partners, we create innovative software, hardware and integrated systems for the measurement and analysis of human and animal behavior. Our open solutions facilitate data exchange and insights discovery, allowing you to make results rapidly and easily available, anytime and anywhere, while safeguarding privacy and security. Listening to our stakeholders and sharing our knowledge, we are inspired by scientific and societal challenges and can respond to the demands of today and prepare for those of tomorrow.
We envision a world in which our tools for the measurement of behavior, health and well-being enable professionals to develop innovative products and services that contribute to sustainable development and quality of life.
We apply the latest sensor technology, computer vision, machine learning and AI techniques to develop cutting-edge tools for science and practice. These allow our customers to measure a wealth of modalities, from behavior and physiology to emotion, cognition, and user experience. Our tools support the objective assessment of health and well-being, in humans and animals, and thus contribute to better solutions for precision livestock farming, sustainable crop protection, and healthy food choice. Our innovations accelerate the development of new drugs to treat diseases, better medical care, smart homes, more usable products and websites, and safer cars, airplanes and work environments.
This vision is made real by our people, passion and technology.

At the core
We believe in
We believe that companies of any size can make a difference in sustainability. That is why we organize our business processes in an ecologically sustainable manner. We minimize waste, choose our materials responsibly, and are mindful about travelling. At our headquarters in Leesburg, we use smart energy controls and floor heating to reduce energy use. Our building in Wageningen is equipped with a Sedum roof, solar panels, heat pumps, and state-of-the-art LED lighting. Also, the surrounding grounds are planted with native trees and shrubs, and managed without use of chemicals.
We take our
We care about our community and allocate part of our resources to good causes. For example, we support local sports clubs and cultural events, sponsor science and technology education, and donate to innovation projects. We are also concerned with the ethics of animal testing and strongly feel that the use of laboratory animals should be kept to a minimum. That is why we strive to develop tools and products that will support the reduction, refinement, and replacement of animal testing.
How we inspire
How we work
At Noldus, our customers’ needs and requirements are a driving force in each step of product development. We consult with leading experts in the field, monitor relevant technology trends, and ask our customers for feedback. Customer surveys, technical support questions, and beta tests are invaluable sources of information for our planning process.
When developing a new product, we start with product research to generate new solutions for data acquisition and analysis. This includes subjects like sensor technology, computer vision, and mathematics. Using our modern engineering facilities, we build prototypes and design hardware for our products. We also collaborate with leading hardware suppliers, including Tobii, Biopac, Maze Engineers, Ugo Basile, and Eyetech. Next, interaction designers and software engineers create the system architecture, functional design, user interface, and robust program code. Finally, extensive product testing ensures that our products meet the highest possible standards of quality and reliability.
To promote innovation, we also study novel technologies, concepts, and product prototypes in Noldus InnovationWorks. Within this branch of the company, we push the limits of our technology and test new features that may be of value to our customers. Noldus InnovationWorks pursues and coordinates partnerships with researchers and entrepreneurs in academia, government and industry. We play an active role in several leading research projects on animal and human behavior.
