Y-maze test

The Y-maze is similar to the T-maze, and is a test to investigate spatial learning and memory. However, contrary to the T-maze, it has three similar arms that are all placed at 120 degrees to each other. Some researchers prefer the Y-maze over the T-maze because learning time might be decreased.

High quality mazes

The Noldus Y-maze is specifically designed for testing rats or mice. Our standard design is made from grey non-reflective material, and is ideal for video tracking with EthoVision XT and easy to clean. It also comes with three partitions to easily section off each arm.

Customer testimonial

"We very much appreciate being able to talk to a technical associate with questions. They have been instrumental in helping us get set up and then have been there with all the questions we've had since.”

Made for you

The Noldus Y-maze can be easily adjusted or completely built to your specifications. For example, you can choose a different color or add an IR backlight. Automated doors and pellet dispensers are also an option, and can be controlled with EthoVision XT. All mazes are available in a cost-efficient package deal that includes a computer and a full EthoVision XT software license for video tracking. This license can also be used for video tracking and automation in other behavioral tests.

Video tracking

Performing your Y-maze test with EthoVision XT video tracking allows you to easily get parameters like latency to enter the correct arm, number of transitions into each arm, time spent in each arm, and more. Using all three body points (nose, center, and tail base), you can acquire very accurate data.

Alternative suppliers

Noldus mazes can be standard or custom built to your specifications. Alternatively, we also offer mazes from several suppliers such as Ugo Basile and Maze Engineers (availability may depend on your location).
