SRA Biennial Meeting in Baltimore

5 tips to get the most out of the 2016 SRA Biennial Meeting

Wednesday, 30 March, 2016

We’re looking forward to the 16th Biennial Meeting of the Society for Research on Adolescence which will start tomorrow. It will be held in Baltimore, Maryland.

The general program sessions will begin at 8:30am tomorrow and conclude at 5:15pm on Saturday.

Here are five tips that help you get the most out of the conference.

1) Plan your conference day

Download the mobile app. Easily make a schedule for yourself on your smart phone. The SRA 2016 mobile app is powered by and available for download. It will make your conference day so much more efficient.

2) Lunch

Join the Meet the Scientist Lunch. Match making! Why not?

This lunch is a traditional event at the SRA Biennial Meeting that provides a forum for student members to interact with senior scholars who have central roles in the field of adolescent development and the Society. The 2016 Meet the Scientist Lunch is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 12:00 – 1:30pm.

3) See software in action

Meet Niek Wilmink, product portfolio manager at the Noldus booth (#202).

See The Observer XT in action, get more info about FaceReader, and see how all tools can be integrated to create the tool you need for your research.

Viso is the brand-new tool for multi-room video and audio recording that allows for real-time viewing and immediate debriefing. Training and counseling facilities are designing rooms using this tool to facilitate video feedback courses.

4) Be inspired

Select a session to go to which is out of your scope of research and be inspired.

Hearing something that is different from your area of interest might give you just the ideas or the inspiration you need. This session immediately drew my attention:

“Flawed Problem-Solving in Adolescent Romantic Relationships: Contributing Factors and Later Consequences of Observed Difficulties”.

It will be held Friday from 12:15 to 1:45pm, Hilton Baltimore, 3rd Floor, Tubman AB.

Why did it interest me? I wrote a blog post a while ago about how romantic partners capitalize on the success of their romantic partner. The topic was different, but the type of research set up could be similar. In the study reffered to in the blog post, a lab was set up in order to measure subjective, facial, and physiological emotional processing.

5) Expore Baltimore

Go out! After spending the day at the 2016 SRA Biennial Meeting, be sure to explore Baltimore! tells us that Baltimore is rich in history and charm, and that it is easy to get around, with a walkable convention campus. Below I selected an image from the famed Inner Harbor. Hopefully it's a little less cloudy the upcoming days. I am sure Niek Wilmink will tell me if he thinks Baltimore is a delightful waterfront city (as puts it).
