To test if, for example, advertisements are increasing one’s level of engagement, you can look at the facial expressions people show while watching the advertisements. To measure facial expressions, a tool like FaceReader can be used. Aside from accurately measuring the basic emotions, FaceReader has the option to create custom expressions, such as engagement.
In this webinar, Dayenne Sarkol-Teulings will tell us more about what engagement is and how she performed an experiment to find out what an engaged face looks like. The results of her validation study will be highlighted as well.

During her 3-month graduate research internship project for her master Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University of Utrecht, Noldus asked her to create a custom expression for the emotional state Engagement.
Dayenne currently works as Research Assistant at the Brain Research And Innovation Centre (Expertise Centre of the Military GGZ) at UMC Utrecht, seconded from the Ministry of Defense, the Netherlands.
