meets President Xi Jinping
Noldus Information Technology has long-standing relationships with China. Our company has been active in China since 1999, when we signed the first contract with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The ties between our company founder and China date back even further, since Lucas Noldus worked as a junior researcher at Beijing Normal University in 1984. Thus, 2014 marks the 15th anniversary of our business in China and the 30th anniversary of a personal link with the People’s Republic.
Our connections with China were reinforced during a recent trip of Lucas Noldus to China on behalf of Noldus Information Technology and on behalf of the Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation (AcTI), of which he serves as vice president.
10-day science meets technology trip
In order to inform scientists and students about new developments in behavioral measurement and analysis tools, Dr. Noldus presented a lecture entitled “Tools for user studies: from usability testing to user experience research” at the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University in Beijing. At the Institutes of Brain Science of Fudan University in Shanghai, he lectured about “New tools for behavioral brain research: motor behavior and optogenetics”.
President Xi Jinping addresses the ICEST 2014 conference delegates
In Beijing, Dr. Noldus represented AcTI at the annual meeting of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS), the umbrella organization of 26 academies of engineering. Lucas Noldus was recently elected to the CAETS Board of Directors. The meeting included the two-day International Conference on Engineering Sciences and Technology (ICEST 2014), which brought together 1500 academics and professionals from around the world. The conference program featured keynote speeches by high-profile speakers, including Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO. Prior to the speeches, Dr. Noldus and the other CAETS representatives met with president Xi and Ms. Bokova to discuss international cooperation in science and engineering.
During the conference, Lucas Noldus gave a talk on “ICT for Brain, Body & Behavior: a new model for co-creation of innovative measurement and analysis tools for translational health research”, presenting how public-private partnerships in research on ICT, brain and cognition can accelerate the development of novel research tools.
