Webinar Drug Abuse and Addiction: Thursday 29th of November - 2 p.m. (CET)

Get hooked on EthoVision XT!

Behavioral tests of animal models of addiction often involve conditioning paradigms. For example, instrumental conditioning is commonly used to study the reinforcing properties of addictive drugs that increase the probability of a behavioral response that leads to their presentation.

The Trial and Hardware Control module of EthoVision XT can be used to operate hardware devices to be used in instrumental / operant conditioning tests. For example, when the animal is detected on top of the shelter in a PhenoTyper® cage (an instrumented home cage), a drug is delivered to the animal on the other side of the cage. The frequency of getting on top of the shelter is an indication of the rewarding properties of the drug.
