With TrackLab, you can quantify animal activity and movement behavior. Gain insights into social behavior, place-preference, eating and drinking behavior, and many more parameters. TrackLab also includes various analysis options for individual animals and experimental groups.
TrackLab provides different types of graphical place-preference behavior insights: a density plot showing a graphical representation of place-preference across the site, and a place-time preference heatmap that shows which times of the day animals prefer to visit a specific area.
Activity indicators are represented by velocity, distance moved, and user-definable movement categories such as standing, walking, and running. Results can be calculated per time interval or for the complete data selection interval.
Areas of interest
You can pan and zoom across the map and draw custom regions of interest. This way, you can get the frequencies and durations of subject visits for each of the defined areas, and get indicators for feeding and drinking behavior by calculating the time spent at the drinking trough or feed bunk. In addition, you can learn about bedding preferences by comparing place-preference on different floor concepts.
Social behavior is seen as an important indicator for welfare, but it can also be used to analyze hierarchy and pair relations within a group. TrackLab offers two social behavior indicators: basic proximity to any other animal (frequencies and duration), and a social network analysis that calculates the pair relations within a group.
Results per individual or experimental group
You can zoom into the behavior analysis of individual animals and export results for inferential analysis, or you can explore the mean results for experimental groups. Add subject characteristics information, or information that defines the groups, such as a particular dosage of nutrients or the animal breed. When you add the information in the Variables module, TrackLab will automatically calculate group statistics in the Group Results module.
Results per time interval
You can inspect and export measurement results for the complete selected time interval, but you can also choose to view results per clock-based interval such as per minute, per hour, per day, or even larger intervals. This allows you to analyze behavior trends that evolve over time.
