research project

IAT, an INTERREG project

This project will work on various aspects of cross-border automated transport using public roads. Initially conceived as a follow-up to the successful WEpods project, which was the first project in the world in which a car without a steering wheel and brake drove on normal public roads. It now has a much broader scope and includes aspects such as truck platooning and parcel delivery using autonomous vehicles.

The focus is on cross-border aspects because as autonomous driving technologies develop it is expected that the main barrier to adoption will be updating and aligning the legislation governing road use within and especially across countries.
