Opening of unique training facility for detectives

Noldus Information Technology is helping to develop the CSI Lab

On 27th October, the CSI Lab will open. This is a training facility for crime scene investigators. The CSI Lab is unique in the international forensic world.

CSI Lab
The CSI Lab is located within the Netherlands Forensic Institute. Inside the Lab, crime scenes can be reconstructed. Cameras and sensors are attached in many positions, and can be operated from an observation room. There are also techniques whereby you can walk through a virtual crime scene, interactively, in 3D. These offer tremendous possibilities for training forensic detectives in the police force. In addition, they can use the CSI Lab to test out new techniques to secure traces of evidence. 

CSI The Hague
The CSI Lab has been created by CSI The Hague, a fantastic project in which Noldus is involved as a consortium partner. In this project, we are looking for new techniques to secure evidence at a crime scene.   

Digital crime scene
These new techniques make it possible to store a crime scene digitally. Not only by making image and sound recordings in 3D, but also by digitalising as many traces as possible. In this way, for example, even heat traces or blood traces may be recorded with a camera and reviewed in the CSI Lab. Noldus’ software package The Observer^® XT will serve as the central data integration software. A variety of data such as video streams, information from movement sensors, physiological data and more can easily be combined. This offers judges, legal representatives and public prosecutors the possibility of gaining a good picture of what has happened at a crime scene.
