EthoVision XT
USB-IO box
The Noldus USB-IO box is a device that enables EthoVision XT to communicate directly with external equipment, and can also integrate seamlessly with Noldus' PhenoTyper.
USB-IO Box
The USB-IO box connects to the Noldus pellet dispenser, the Noldus lickometer, levers, or the light and sound stimuli of a PhenoTyper topunit. You can also use it to connect to the automated parts of mazes and other test set-ups, such as automatic doors. When you combine the easy-to-use programming environment of EthoVision XT’s Trial & Hardware Control Module with the USB-IO box, your research can become fully automated.
EthoVision XT is the most widely applied video tracking software that tracks and analyzes the behavior, movement, and activity of any animal.
-
A cost-effective solution for all standard behavioral tests such as the Morris water maze and open field testing
-
High-throughput and high-content testing
-
Suitable for sophisticated test-protocols
Features
The USB-IO box provides the interface between EthoVision XT’s Trial & Hardware Control module and peripheral devices. It allows you to benefit from all the different options for completely automated set-ups that EthoVision XT offers. This even includes set-ups with multiple cages and multiple animals per cage, even in synchrony with external physiological signals.
Cost-efficient
You can use the USB-IO box in a wide variety of set-ups, connecting any kind of standard TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) based equipment. This makes it a very cost-effective and efficient tool; you can use new equipment, equipment that is already in you lab, or custom made devices. You can also choose the box that suits your requirements: the USB-IO box or the mini USB-IO box.
Connect your devices
The USB-IO box is capable of receiving signals or data from devices as well as sending signals or data to the device. It is the ideal tool to connect PhenoTyper to accessories such as the pellet dispenser and lickometer. The USB-IO box contains twelve TTL connections, each connection supporting two TTL in and two TTL outlines in order to receive and send multiple signals to and from a device such as the pellet dispenser. The USB-IO box also contains thirteen SDI (Special Device Interface) connections to send and receive data to and from devices such as the lickometer. Furthermore, each SDI connection is capable of controlling up to four PhenoTyper top-units.
Mini USB-IO box
The mini version of the USB-IO box has fewer connections and provides a low-cost solution for your research. It contains four TTL connections, one SDI, and a TTL expansion port to connect up to sixteen additional TTL output lines. The mini USB-IO box is ideally used to control on-demand water maze platforms, automatic guillotine doors (in a radial arm maze, or a T- or Y-maze), pellet dispensers, shocker floors, or any other TTL-based hardware.
TTL to 28 Volt converter for Med Associates equipment
Med Associates equipment, such as the automated doors of a T-maze or radial arm maze, requires 28 Volt to operate. To makes things easy, Noldus designed a TTL to 28 Volt converter; a plug and play device that allows you to connect one or two Med Associates devices to the USB-IO box, or the mini USB-IO box. You can daisy-chain multiple TTL to 28 Volt converters. A cost-effective solution for a completely integrated system!
